Our Mission

We strive to provide the best possible service and experience to our clients by offering high quality one on one support via ABA therapy. We will contribute to the well-being of society by supporting, developing, and enhancing the growth of our youth. Through personalized consultation and intervention services for children with autism spectrum disorder to help them succeed amongst peers in school and at home.

Building Blocks of Life provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services based on the individualized needs, assessments, and treatment goals of each client. ABA services and treatment recommendations are developed using evidence-based practices, clinical judgment, ongoing data collection, and collaboration with clients, caregivers, and other appropriate professionals.

While Building Blocks of Life is committed to providing high-quality and ethical services, individual responses to treatment vary, and specific outcomes or rates of progress cannot be guaranteed. Treatment plans, goals, schedules, and recommendations may be modified when clinically appropriate based on client progress, assessment results, medical or environmental changes, caregiver input, funding requirements, and other relevant factors.

Information provided by Building Blocks of Life, whether verbally, electronically, through printed materials, or on the company website, is intended for informational and service-related purposes and should not be considered a substitute for medical care, emergency services, or advice from other appropriately licensed healthcare professionals. In the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency or an immediate threat to health or safety, individuals should contact 911 or the appropriate emergency service.

Building Blocks of Life is committed to protecting client privacy and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and professional and ethical requirements. Information regarding clients will only be disclosed as permitted or required by law, with appropriate authorization when required.

Participation in ABA services does not create a guarantee of specific educational, behavioral, developmental, medical, or other outcomes. Building Blocks of Life reserves the right to make clinically appropriate recommendations regarding services, including modifications, referrals, transitions, or discharge, consistent with applicable laws, payer requirements, professional standards, and the needs and safety of the client.

Purpose

Building Blocks of Life is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of information entrusted to the organization. The purpose of this policy is to establish standards for the collection, use, storage, access, disclosure, and protection of confidential information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), personally identifiable information, employee information, and organizational records.

Building Blocks of Life will maintain privacy practices consistent with applicable federal and state laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), when applicable, as well as contractual, payer, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

Information Collected

Building Blocks of Life may collect information necessary to provide and coordinate ABA services and conduct business operations. This information may include, but is not limited to:

Client and parent/guardian names and contact information.
Dates of birth and demographic information.
Medical, behavioral, developmental, diagnostic, and treatment information.
Assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, session notes, behavior data, and other clinical documentation.
Insurance, authorization, billing, and payment information.
School, physician, caregiver, and other provider information when relevant to services.
Employee, contractor, applicant, and business-related information.
Electronic communications and other information voluntarily provided to the organization.

Building Blocks of Life will make reasonable efforts to collect only information necessary for treatment, payment, healthcare operations, legal requirements, and other legitimate organizational purposes.

Use and Disclosure of Client Information

Client information will be used or disclosed only as permitted or required by applicable law and organizational policy. Information may be used for purposes including treatment, care coordination, payment, billing, quality assurance, supervision, training, healthcare operations, and regulatory compliance.

When authorization is required before information can be disclosed to another individual or organization, Building Blocks of Life will obtain appropriate written authorization from the client, parent, legal guardian, or other legally authorized representative.

Information may be disclosed without authorization when permitted or required by law, including circumstances involving mandatory reporting, certain public health or legal requirements, audits, or situations involving an immediate threat to health or safety, as applicable.

Minimum Necessary Standard

Employees and other authorized personnel will access, use, and disclose only the minimum amount of confidential information reasonably necessary to perform their assigned job responsibilities, except when otherwise permitted or required by law.

Employees are prohibited from accessing client records for personal reasons or accessing information about clients for whom they do not have a legitimate work-related need.

Confidentiality

All employees, contractors, students, interns, volunteers, and other individuals with access to confidential information are expected to maintain confidentiality during and after their relationship with Building Blocks of Life.

Client information must not be discussed in public areas or with unauthorized individuals. Conversations regarding clients should occur in private settings whenever reasonably possible.

Staff members may not share client information, photographs, videos, treatment information, or identifying details through personal social media accounts, personal email accounts, unauthorized applications, or other unapproved communication platforms.

Electronic Information and Communication

Building Blocks of Life will implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect electronic confidential information.

Employees must use organization-approved systems and communication methods when accessing, transmitting, documenting, or storing confidential information. Passwords and login credentials must not be shared with unauthorized individuals.

Electronic devices containing or providing access to confidential information must be appropriately secured. Employees are responsible for promptly reporting lost or stolen devices, suspected unauthorized access, phishing attempts, or other potential security concerns involving organizational information.

Physical Records

Paper records containing confidential information must be maintained in secure areas with access limited to authorized personnel. Records should not be left unattended in locations accessible to unauthorized individuals.

When confidential paper records are no longer required and are eligible for destruction under the organization's record-retention requirements, they must be destroyed using an approved secure method.

Photographs, Video, and Audio Recordings

Photographs, video recordings, and audio recordings of clients may only be created, used, or disclosed for authorized purposes and in accordance with applicable consent and authorization requirements.

Personal devices should not be used to photograph, record, or store identifiable client information unless specifically authorized by organizational policy and applicable privacy requirements.

Client and Family Rights

Building Blocks of Life respects the privacy rights of clients and their legally authorized representatives. Depending on applicable law, individuals may have rights concerning their health information, including the right to request access to records, request corrections, request certain restrictions, receive information regarding disclosures, and receive information about the organization's privacy practices.

Requests concerning client records or privacy rights should be directed to the designated Privacy Officer or authorized member of management.

Release of Information

When written authorization is required, Building Blocks of Life will obtain a valid authorization before releasing confidential information to third parties. Authorizations should identify the information to be disclosed, the individual or organization receiving the information, the purpose of the disclosure, and other information required by applicable law.

The identity and authority of individuals requesting confidential information should be reasonably verified before information is released.

Privacy and Security Incidents

Any employee who becomes aware of a suspected or confirmed privacy or security incident must report the matter immediately to the designated Privacy Officer or organizational leadership.

Examples include:

Records provided to the wrong individual.
Unauthorized access to client records.
Lost or stolen devices containing confidential information.
Confidential information sent to an incorrect email address or recipient.
Improper conversations or disclosures involving client information.
Unauthorized photographs, recordings, or social media posts.
Improper disposal of confidential records.

Building Blocks of Life will investigate reported incidents, take appropriate corrective action, document findings when required, and complete required notifications in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Employees will not be retaliated against for making a good-faith report of a suspected privacy or security concern.

Employee Training

All applicable employees will receive privacy and confidentiality training upon hire and periodically thereafter, including at least annually when required by organizational policy. Additional training will be provided when significant policy, regulatory, technological, or operational changes occur or when monitoring identifies a need for additional education.

Training and employee acknowledgment of privacy requirements will be documented and maintained by Building Blocks of Life.

Policy Violations

Failure to comply with this policy may result in corrective or disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or contractual relationships, as appropriate. Violations may also be reported to regulatory, licensing, law enforcement, or other authorities when required by law.

Policy Review

This Privacy and Confidentiality Policy will be reviewed at least annually and updated as necessary based on changes in federal or state law, HIPAA requirements, payer requirements, accreditation standards, organizational practices, technology, identified risks, or other regulatory requirements.

Revised policies will be communicated to affected personnel, and additional training will be provided when necessary.
